There was hardly a better way for us to finish off our African Holiday than with a stay on the Isle of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is the collective name for two East African islands about 20 miles off mainland Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Its exotic environment and location has made it a popular destination for centuries. The island's history was influenced by the British, Persians, Arabs, Indians, Portuguese and the African mainland. Historically, diverse people with very different backgrounds have always inhabited Zanzibar and this diversity of cultural influences gives it a unique feel.
Zanzibar Town, with its principal section called Stone Town, is the heart of the island and offered a rich and unique atmosphere.
